Solution:
The names of devices which work under the principles of physics are following
- Electric Motors
- Telephone
- Pulley
- Generators
- Refrigerators
- Air Conditioner
Question No. 2
A heavy 2.0Kg ball is moving at 10m/s when it is caught. A light 1.5Kilogram ball is travelling at 20m/s when it caught. Which ball required the greater impulse?
- The 2.0kg ball because it is more massive.
- The 2.0kg ball because it had more momentum
- The 1.5kg ball because it was travelling faster
- The 1.5 kg ball because it is more momentum
- The question can’t be answered without more information.
Solution:
The option (3rd) is correct, because the ball having mass 1.5kg and speed 20m/s is having momentum 30kgm/s as compared with first ball having momentum 20kgm/s. The second ball has more momentum so has greater impulse.
Question No.3:
In the classic horse and cart problem, a horse is attached to a cart that can roll along on a set of wheels. Which of the following statement is true? Also explain the reason of your selected choice as well.
- The horse pulls on the cart with a force, and the cart pulls, back on the horse with an equal force.
- The horse pulls on the cart with a force greater than the force that the cart pulls back on the horse.
- The horse pulls the cart forward, because of a time delay between the action and reaction forces.
- The horse pulls the cart forward, but only if the horse has a mass greater than the mass of the cart.
- The horse pulls the cart forward because the force of friction forward is greater than the force of the wagon backward.
Solution:
The option (2nd) is correct, because according to the newton’s third law of motion “Action and Reaction are always equal but in opposite direction” so when horse pulls the cart in forward direction this is action while the friction between wheels and road is reaction force. As the horse pulls on the cart with greater force than the friction force of cart so cart moved forward due to greater action force.
